bespoke basin

A first for us, we were asked by the incredibly talented, interior designer, Kelly Love, owner of Broomhill Interiors, to create a bespoke basin for her home renovation. Measuring 40cm in diameter, this is one of the largest pieces we have made to date.

Before we got started we spoke to Kelly in depth about the brief and sent her a sample pack of glazes, so she could curate her own mood board for arguably one of the most important rooms in the house, the en-suite.

To create the basin we used a dark flecked clay that we hand built, adding small amounts of clay at a time to ensure the thickness was even throughout. Placing this incredibly special piece in the kiln was a nerve-racking moment, it took both of us to carefully lower the basin into position ready for firing. The basin was then finished in an off-white glaze, with the natural flecks of the clay peeking through creating a scene of speckles that dance across the surface.
